MENTAL FITNESS ELECTS NEW BOARD PRESIDENT

It all begins with an idea.

ATLANTA, Ga. – We are pleased to announce the election of Dr. Damon Johnson as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Mental Fitness 21st Century Learning. Dr. Johnson brings decades of industry leadership and executive experience in technology, having built and led high-performing engineering teams at Intuit, InComm Payments, and Chick-fil-A, Inc. In addition, Dr. Johnson has served in an advisory capacity to the George Washington University School of Business and technology-centered programming at North Carolina A&T State University – his undergraduate alma mater.

Established in 2013, Mental Fitness STEAM Academy is nonprofit organization which aims to provide students, parents, and the community with authentic, challenging, and engaging enrichment with a S.T.E.A.M. focus. Our vision is to ensure that all children in grades 1 through 12 have access to high-quality computer technology and educational resources so that they are better prepared for school, college, and the workforce.

“I am passionate about engaging in spaces created to cultivate the inherent excellence of our young achievers, especially those in demographic groups underrepresented in scientific and technological fields,” Johnson stated. “It is extremely exciting to partner with founder John Childs ensuring Mental Fitness maintains operational excellence while strengthening its role in building a community of STEM-focused scholars.”

Dr. Johnson holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from North Carolina A&T, a Master of Science in Instructional Technology from Georgia Southern University, and a Doctor of Business Administration in Organization Behavior from Johnson & Wales University. According to founder and Executive Director John Childs, “We look forward to Damon’s leadership on our leadership and fundraising efforts to support the important work we do for families in the Atlanta area and beyond.”

Since inception, Mental Fitness has been dedicated to advancing the academic, social and career opportunities of youth throughout the Atlanta Metropolitan area by providing them, and their families, with STEM enrichment, college prep assistance, career training, mentorship, and counseling. We achieve this by holding after-school programs, in-school field trips, and summer enrichment camps. Mental Fitness strives to connect the work of our three primary streams of programming - after-school, in-school workshops, and summer STEM camps - to the learning that is done during the school hours. Our efforts are focused on exposing students to the overall knowledge of STEM careers and STEM concepts.
